With the grid rec mode activated press function + left/right arrow. You'll 
be limited to the current grid resolution though.

You may check for input machines that are open in the pattern. Check that 
any of the machines is a INP one.

However I must say that my first MD was way noisier than my "new" UW. If you 
have an early model you may consider selling it and getting a newer model. 
Mine had the "hardware upgrade" made as well but to me it always sounded the 
same.
