TB 303 is much more user friendly soundwise... .. it was built as an electronic bassline slapper for drummers to practice to. (surely many angry drummers about, those who hate bassplayers AND the fake sound of the TB!).. So if the TB made strange sounds, it wouldn't have been the bass simulator they wanted.. Today its used differently, and has become a highly desirable sound. I wonder about the way it's culturally associated with dance music now (a culture thats grown huge from those who claimed to hate is previously!).. it's a great sound .. but I think yes it's tired. Also synthesis on these machines is very simple and the sound is always TB303 .. you can tweak, but always within the recognisable sound. Everyone argues to hell & back about 'real' 303 and how you need one. I don't know, call me an amateur, but the difference in sound between a real 303 and a softsynth or hardware emulation is in the real versions ability to distory upon itself. It's when you turn the output up too high that it starts to get dirty & warm. So this is good -- but i got pretty close to this sound using nice valve pre-amplification on Rebirth of all things! And devilfish? .. come on! what about something new!? i'm not sure all the booties you're tweaking to will notice either ;) andrew
