Has anyone in the US gotten their TM-1 yet? I ordred mine literally
minutes after receiving the Friends email, yet it still hasn't
arrived.

I have had Turbo MIDI for one day and have tested it out briefly.

MD SPS-1 synced to Live as slave - excellent! Need to investigate
thoroughly but timing seems pretty damn solid to me. Tried using the
MD as the master / live as the slave and things were getting pretty
crazy but as I said need time to check this out further. Also must
experiment w/ other sequencers e.g. Logic.

I'm afraid I missed out on the last UW upgrades : ( So I can't
comment on the sample transfer speed. Having said that just tried
backup of my MD's entire sysex, this took precisely 28 seconds. Now
that's pretty damn fast!

He's probably stoked that his MnM and MD are synced so tight now :)

...they go by Airmail (unfortunately just UPS shipping would have cost
about as much as the full friend price). Sfter you get the shipping
confirmation email you prabably need to wait around 2 weeks. I hate to
say it, but sometimes it has taken up to 4 weeks.

Between 1 and 3 weeks, with the mayority coming within 2 weeks is the
best bet though. The 4-week-ers are usually when the one putting on
the stamp is to be spanked for forgetting to put on the magic blue
"Airmail"-sticker.

It will come though. Even though it's slower than UPS it appears to be
just as safe. Delivered by USPS in the US, right?

Keep communicating when they arrive! Would be interesting to get some
feedback how fast they arrive after we ship them from here.

Best,

Daniel

Re: [elektron] Getting to Know TurboMIDI

2006-10-12 by Andrew Denyes

I got mine, along with some cool T-shirts in almost the size I ordered ;)

Sysex dumps are super fast now. More motivation to use up tons of patterns! I haven't tried sample loading on the MD+UW yet.

I did try chaining TM->MM->MD(thru)->TM. Hitting the turbo button does put you in turbo mode, but you seem to lose MIDI sync and control from MM to MD. Have not experimented much yet, have to wait for the weekend.

Also, it is smaller than I thought it would be. I thought it would be the size of an ART MP-1 but it is more like a pack of cigarettes. The word "cute" comes to mind as not completely irrelevant.

I got mine last night (061012)... haven't had a chance to plug it in yet.
No idea why I got it faster than you two.

I ordered mine on oct 1st, got the shipping confirmation on the 6th
and the tm-1 arrived on the 11th here in hamburg/germany. looks
really cute - love the packaging! it's smaller but heavier than I
expected. looking forward to playing around with it, the os upgrade
felt quite fast tho.

I got mine yesterday (UK). haven't had time to try it yet but it looks
really nice...
my only gripe though is the manual was just placed in the box on top of the
device and during transit loads of black ink rubbed off the back of the
manual onto the nice metal casing. still haven't gotten it all off. If are
elektron are listening i'd recommend placing the manual between the top
padding and the cardboard instead.

Why the hell this thing only has one out?
and also a second in would be nice...

my practice over many years showed that a 2in2 out
interface is often just what you need when you play
live...
The idea behind the unit is nice..but ...
it a bit too minimal.

Re: [elektron] Getting to Know TurboMIDI

2006-10-14 by Gerald Stevens

Same thing happened to mine - and the ink is embedded in the grain of the
brushed Al on the rounded edge, so it's not likely that I'll be able to get
it out. Now it matches my MnM with a red Crayola mark embedded on it
(thanks to my 3-yr. old daughter).

Hey - an unrelated question. Did any of the MD updates ever make it so that
you can record drum-hits from a midi-source in real-time record mode? Seems
like a no-brainer to program - the MnM does it. Even better would be if it
could record from the external triggers. Anyone try this recently?

One thing that I noticed recently but haven't investigated too thoroughly is
that the MnM midi channels can record joystick movement. I bitched and
griped endlessly (sorry about that) about the fact that you couldn't record
the joystick movements, and got a response that this request wouldn't be
implemented because pitch could not be recorded. Elektron said that they
didn't want to implement anything in a half-arsed way, and I figured that
that is their choice. But it seems that they implemented the joystick
record on the MIDI tracks (sans pitch), so why not extend the luxury to the
synth tracks as well?

I would love this too, and asked for it recently on the Elektron users
forum. Input on the MD via MIDI keyboards, and it would automatically
apply the correct P-lock for pitch based on the midi note received.
That would be SOOOO nice.

a decent editor for the md would be cool... one that
also graphicaly shows the repeats and slides...but
regarding hacking in tunes with the keyboard...
wasnt there a software that tryed to do this for the
MD?

I remember this editor. I'm not looking to sequence keyboards with the MD.
What I really want to do is real time record drum hits using midi out from
an old Yamaha DD-5.

Yeah, the downside of that software if I remember correctly was that
it has to be running to get that functionality. You couldn't store
your changes to the hardware if I remember correctly.
