i have a question about the sidstation...

ive had my sidstation for a month now, and i love it more than any other
synth ive owned or heard. but in listening to the old c64 tunes with
sidPLAY, i was wondering if anyone knows of a tracking program that save in
the .sid format to be then played through sidPLAY through the sidstation.
This way it would (would it...?) be possible to get all three of sid's
oscillators to play independant of eachother with different characteristics
for each oscillator (ie. osc1 sqarewave, osc2 triangle, osc3 sawtooth)
without them being linked to eachother as they are in mono mode. if anyone
can help, i'd be greatly appreciative...

thanks alot
evan

hi there.
i had the same vision and all you need is a program called CyberTracker
available for free from http://noname.c64.org/

it is a tracker program that runs on a Commodore 64 or an Emulator of a C=64.
you can find those emulators everywhere. the best one is CCS64. if you can't
find it, email me seperately and i will be happy to Email it to you.

it is a really cool program!!!
Enjoy,

thank you so much for the suggestion Eitan.
im glad someone else had the same ideas. i'm having some problems
getting it to work, though. i can run ccs64 and cybertracker alright, but
the c64 emulator wont recognize my usb midi interface. i also can't get any
sound out of any of my sound cards to even hear what im doing in
cybertracker. if you dont mind helping again, i was wondering how you set
everything up to run the tracker through the sidstation...
thanks again,
evan

sorry...i pressed send by mistake...
i'm glad that there is someone in this group that like these things also.
here's the thing. there isn't an Emulator that i know that specifically
support the sidstation. when using the CCS emulator, it can use any sound
blaster type sound card or clone that you have in your system BUT then you're
in sid emulation mode (same architecture as all the sid players out there)
the oly direcr hardware connection that you can make between an amulator (and
thus Cybertracker) and real Commodore sound (I.E from a live Sid chip) is
using the HardSid Sound card (Either HardSid or HardSid Quattro) these cards
can be used directly when using all sid players, emulators, and c64 programs
and games that run on an emulator to produce the real thing! no emulation
here just pure sid sound!

if you want to use your SidStation with Cybertracker you will have to do it
through the midi implementation that the emulator has... i don't think
CyberTracker can do this.

I love the SidStation and i am a Proud owner of one... but i also own a
HardSid Quattro to complement my sid setup and BOY it does!!!

the cards are very cheap also... go to hardsid.com to get the full details.

that is how I work with CyberTracker... through my HardSid Quattro
card...finally it is like having a real c64 again :-)

hope this helps..
let me know if you have more questions
