sequence was playing my MD crashed. all the lights lit up and a high pitch
squeel came out of it and i couldnt do anything except shut it off.

That's exactly what I've had happen 2 or 3 times now.

I haven't had any crashes, but sometimes I get it into a state
where the pushed-in knobs don't affect the sound, and the not-pushed-in
knobs return the value to its orig. setting! I'm not sure if this is
a normal, special mode?!?! Hopefully, they can fix this little bug!

Now, onto the hysteria!

Jesus! This machine is awesome! a lot of power packed into a little box.

I LOVE:

simultaneous effects processing!
save your pattern while it's still playing! (just like my amiga 500)
LFO's.....sweet..
Parameter Locks...oh, boy! one for every step, every parameter!
Parameter Lock *SLIDES* wow!
Stereo Headphone Output (chillin in bed under the covers)
How intuitive the whole thing is...the manual is scarcely necessary!
The built-in delay is very good, I appreciate the long memory and the Freq.
Modulation...just like my two rack delays!

suggested enhancements:
More resolution for LFO speed at the low end of the scale
(there are only 3-4 settings of LFO which are truly Low...
Low for me is like 0.05 <-> 2 Hz), although it is cool that they can go
  very high, I like mellow....
Longer decays on bass drum sounds...(think hip-hop)
Pressing "LFO" should exit the LFO menu; the "Function" button should not be
  needed in conjunction
Get the knob shafts adjusted to the right height before shipping...

pie in the sky dream enhancement:
A monophonic side sequencer for sending note messages to a SIDstation- then
a whole setup could be Machinedrum and SidStation next to each other :)
( route the SidStation audio output into the Machine drum input )
[ as it is, I'll probably just use my QrappY Yamaha QY-10 for the job!)

Thanks folks, a good example of getting what you pay for,

YES! This is exactly what I was thinking about too! Ideally, though, it
would be tri-phonic so that you can do chords and stuff...

I'd love to go play live with just the Machinedrum and Sidstation!

Tri-phonic as in playing the same sound with all of the three voices,
or playing separate sound?

Basslines from the MD then? :)

I've been thinking of doing "silverbox" music, no other synths or
drummachines than the ones that are silver. 606+MD for drums and
Sidstation+303+303 for synths. For techno and such that setup totally
rocks! :)

I have to chime in with my support of this idea as
well. Part of the reason I wanted the MD is to get
away from using my computer for anything other than
final recording/mixing/mastering. Being able to do
everything else without having to use cakewalk or
cubase would be a dream. And since the only other
synth I have is a sidstation (well, and a cs1x, which
I only use as a controller) a single monophonic midi
sequencer would be great! Even if it took up one
track on the MD, it would still be worth it.
Obviously I have no idea if this is feasable, but I
hope it is.

Also, quick tip: Crank the BPM up to 300, change the
pattern to be 4 steps long, and fill it with
electro-noises. Turn up delay and reverb. Then just
start tweaking the settings while it plays. Instant
Coil-esque creepy ambience. Heh.

Actually, now that I think about it..when the map editor becomes
available, it might be just the thing...e.g. map some unused drum sounds
to the Sidstation MIDI Ch ... use the SidStation pattern select to step
through your song...we'll seee

BTW, does the distortion seem overly harsh to people?

Tri-phonic ... the way the Sidstation does it ... 3 note polyphony on the
same sound. Or .. if the sound is monophonic, then you can use those 3
notes for arpeggiations.

About your silver box theory .. my sidstation is black! :)

Well ... both .org and .net work. I guess I just typed .org out of habit.
I suppose I should be consistent and use .net like most people do...

sorry for the confusion :)

Not if you are using the asid play mode... I bet someone could write
some kind of VST plugin that fixes this.

Whee, beware of the Ninja! :)

/Janne, silvery shiny things for me please

Definitely. I can't turn it up above 7 without it
drowning out any other tracks.
