would it really be such a bother????

would it really be such a bother????

...to have the MnM ask me 'are you sure' before you accidentally erase
a pattern that you have been working on for 4 hours? would it be such
a @#@#(& chore?

what a completely brilliant and frustrating piece of (sh|k)it this is!

Hitting Function + Erase again will undo the pattern-clear.

it's happen to me a couple times, if you do the same function again
right after it will undo the previous same function if i remember
correctly. If you hit function clear and it clears, hit function
clear again and it will be back. After you screw up and ruin your
pattern a couple of times you learn and stop doing it.

well if you have pressed any other buttons before you try to undo the
function it wont work anymore.

It's fine once you know how to work it.

Yeah... let's face it. I've never seen a worse thing than the kit handling
of the MD. I decided to sequence mine externally now so I don't have to
bother with that kind of problems... and it is set in classic mode. I'm even
thinking of nuking the button so I could not revert back to the 'extended
with guaranteed kit loss option' :)

Actualy, its just poor design. If I made my applications work in this way
at work, i'd be in deep trouble. you should *always always always* confirm
before sweeping destructive actions are performed.

if this were the *first time* I had accidentally done this and pressed god
knows what so the undo didnt work i could chalk it up to my fat fingers, but
it isnt the first time. Great kit, great sounds...but jesus christ did the
botch up some aspects of its UI....

I personally like the way elektron gear doesn't ask you 1000 times if
you want to do something. You tell it what to do and it does it,
whether its right or wrong. You just have to be a little bit smarter
than the machine. Maybe that's a lot to ask these days.

P.S. you can always copy your patterns to new locations to save a
copy. It's a good idea to do this before any drastic editing.

I already do make backup copies when i know I am going to be doing a drastic
edit. the unit is very easy to fat finger though and delete a pattern when
you meant only to delete a track, or to delete when you meant paste and so
forth.

Its crap design.

Happened to me yesterday again with the MD:

Was working on a kit sequencing from the outside. Save kit. Do a further
update, play for a few hours doing other stuff with the evolver. Fat finger
hits the "extended" knob and boom. All last edit from the kit wiped.

Re: [elektron] would it really be such a bother????

2007-05-29 by Patrik Rydberg

Strange. I don't think I have ever lost a kit that way. On the other
hand, I always work in extended mode, so it might be that undo kit
doesn't work for classic/extended switch, but only for pattern change...

I agree. It good for the workflow if the machinedrum
does not ask you 1000 times. But for new users, it's
frustrating if you loose your changes.
Last weekend I really didn't know exactly, which
button I hit (maybe the classic/extended mode button)
and suddenly all my parameter locks of the current
pattern are lost...
The manual should be more detailed about loosing
things (parameter locks, kits and sounds).
