MD vs MD-UW?

MD vs MD-UW?

2007-10-05 by -0behn desu0-

hey there all.

gonna (I hope) buy a MD in the next little bit (FINALLY), and was
wondering if it's worth the extra half-grand to get the UW?

anybody that had the og MD and went to the UW..... was it worth it?
how often do you find yourself using it? it's pretty low-fi and a
small sample space right?

i use NI's Battery for my sampling/sequencing of home-designed
sounds..... so i don't think i need the UW, but if somebody really
loves it please let me know.

thanks much.

also, torn between going up to the (non-keyboarded) MonoMachine. it looks
like it does a lot of the same stuff that the MD does, but with synthesis
built in. what do people think the MD does better than the MM in terms of
the drums?

thanks,

in my opinion, there is no question: get the UW. it takes the MD concept
where it deserves to go.

Hey.

Just know thath despite the little memory and the loFi, UW is great.
It's not just a sampler for playing your MD like a TR style drummachine.

I got mine 2 weeks ago and have not put my own samples in it yet, but
just by "self sampling" it and replay with retrigs, pitchs, etc, I got
smiling and grooving.

There is a videoa where you can see this feature, wait... yeah it's
here : http://youtube.com/watch?v=0sGkUl-xY6M

That is already very funny...

Well of course, it depends on what use you will have of it...

Second that.

When I bought the UW, I thought it would be great to be able to put my
own samples in there. The RAM-machines, I thought I wouldn't use much,
but that it could be fun to have sometime...

Now, about one year later, I still have just a few of my own samples in
there, but man do I use the RAM machines! I have used them for
everything from resampling a single machine to be able to retrigg it,
through resampling the MD or another loop from Live to process/mess it
up, to actually using ram machines to tidy up the timing of an recorded
electrig guitar playing powerchords. I have used them for strange delay
effects on vocals, or to get looping vocals really quick and easy (you
know, "this is house, house, house, house, house...")

RAM machines ROCK!

monkeys. fine. i guess i'll get the UW.

has anybody used the MM? is the drum programming nowhere near as deep
as the MD?

thanks for all the info. you guys rock like birds (i've been TRYING
to get that phrase to catch on for like 4 years. hasn't happened yet.)

Drum programming with MM is about the same deep as programming the E12
machine on MD.
You only have different samples. But you only have these samples for drums
on MM.
MD gives you TRX, EF and PI.
You can also use SID, FM and SuperWave synth for drums but still MM is not
a specialized drum machine and before having MD i was suffering from the
lack of good drum sounds.
I was saving for MD for about two years and I am glad I have bought it.
Not only it has 16 tracks but it also freed me up 1 to 3 tracks on MM I
was using for drums before.
Enjoy

What Martin said, plus that tweaking the MM's filter and its related
parameters a bit got me this deliciously nasty sub-bass tone with one
of the MM kicks (there are two octaves of E12-style drums on the MM).
