MAchineDrum quirks...

MAchineDrum quirks...

2001-07-25 by revtor@aol.com

SOme more MachineDrum things Ive found..

-The SOund selection wheel (big round) doesn't change the letters in the song
naming screen when youre saving songs, while when youre naming kits, it
does.. much nicer to use the big wheel then the arrow keys for this..
-There is a big "thump" when you turn the power on/off.. No biggie, but hey
just something I thought I'd point out..

I think it might be cool to have for each sound a knob assigned to control
beat shift. This would push the particular sound ahead or behind the beat up
to a certain amount.. on my modular I use a trigger delay to do this and it
can get interesting definitely.. Why not?
Another nice thing would be to have value #'s assigned to the LFO parameters
when you turn the knobs, like the display does with the rest of the knobs..

And a question.. I thought I read somewhere in the manual (I cant find it
now of course) that in song edit mode you can set either the pattern or
repeat column to a setting where it will loop the song from that point
instead of just ending.. Why not?

These are the little peculiar thoughts I had while programming my MachineDrum
tonight. I wish I could upload these beats!! Ill try to do this soon!

That's a cool idea! Although it sounds expensive to implement (if I
understood you right...) Why not have a beat shift button, and use
the 8 knobs that are already there, with a 1-8 / 9-16 button to
switch between the main track groups?

If you use the "quick access" LFO parameters (Speed/Depth/Mix) on the
Routing page, corresponding to the parameters on the main LFO page,
you can see the value numbers for these three parameters. I found it
a bit difficult to sound right when synchronizing the LFO to the main
tempo, though....

Still thinking hard about trying that "square-wave-LFO-to-volume-at-
32-note-speed"-trick! Think this will give a nice chopping effect.
Will try it out soon......

Nils
