Akai MPC2000 and Sidstation (again !)

Akai MPC2000 and Sidstation (again !)

2001-09-11 by evilteenagetwin@hotmail.com

I have tried loading the factory sounds into my Sidstation from an
Akai MPC2000, but can't get it to work.
I have downloaded the factory, Klaus and Ninja patch collections as
MIDI files, and loaded them into the MPC from floppy with no
problems, but when I play them it has no effect.

Can anyone help ? I have checked that the MPC is pointing at the
correct MIDI channel for the Sid etc.

Is it possible that the files are corrupt ? I can't see any data in
them using the MPC's STEP edit (not even any sysex). I have tried
playng back the sequences at the slowest possible speed (30BPM), but
still nothing. (I also tried the sysex files from the Elektron
website, but the MPC doesn't load .SYX files).

Please help ! I got my Sid a couple of weeks ago, with the memory
wiped and would like to see what it is capable of !

Thanks in advance - ETT

Hmm, format the FloppyDisk to PC format.
Make sure the Disk is allright and no sections are damaged.

There should be some sysex data visible in step mode.
Play it at 90 or 100 BPM, you don\ufffdt need to play it too slow.

hmmm, normally it should work.

forget it man, just go for it jazz style...rock the box and then don't
save the patches....I have only two or three saved in my sid sta at any one
time...you can do a hell of a lot with sync, multiple arps at different
speeds and multiple wave tables at different speeds

<SNIP>

I had a similar problem with my Sidstation. I just couldn't get the
Ninja patches to load. I tried it from multiple programs in my PC.
Eventually I couldn't even get the standard patches to load and the
screen would just flicker when I turned it on. I got it fixed by
reloading the OS (Using the OS upgrade wizard) about 6 times. After
the OS was working again, I used the MIDI file to load the Ninja
patches with no problem. Haven't had a problem since. So I'd say, try
to get it working with a PC or MAC first to make sure it's not a
problem with your Sidstation, then try to get the MPC thing going.
