Use a compressor in the signal path? Assuming that one knows the max
level it can take.

This looks interresting, I'll have to try it when my friend returns my
Sidstation. :)

Having a decent compressor/limiter in the chain would probably be an 
absolute necessity, as this is not the first time I've heard of someone 
blowing out their SID chip by pumping too much volume through that external 
input.

And since at that point you're already connecting outboard gear into the 
loop, why not see what results you can get from other inline effects.  I've 
been meaning for a while to try a delay line set at flange settings (~1ms - 
5ms).  Figure it should result in some interesting layering effects in 
addition to overdriving the filter & resonance.  Now if there were only 
enough time in the day to spend playing with this stuff...  ;)

while replacing a blown SID in my sidstation, I was surprised that
elektron didn't put a transorb diode on the input jack.  seems like it
would be cheap insurance against a blown SID...
