Cubase SX with MD

Cubase SX with MD

2002-10-21 by nate

I'm attempting to sync Cubase SX with the MD with SX as master and MD as
slave. However, when playing back a sequence from SX, the tempo on the MD
is all over the place and not stable. I know people have suggested that the
MD be the MTC master, but that isn't what I want at the moment. I want SX
to be in control of things. Basically I'm sending program change messages
to the MD to trigger patterns but still be in sync with what is happening
within SX. I've successfully done this with the MPC and MD in the past with
no issues.

I looked in the Elektron-users archives and there were a couple of threads
about this early on but there seemed to have been no definitive solution
mentioned that was clear to me.

So, can anyone out there that have successfully used this configuration fill
me in on what SX (and MD) settings you used to get a proper stable midi
sync. I'm more interested in MTC sync than midi clock sync.

thx,
nate

I could not get this to work. And I tried, believe me.

What does work is slaving SX to the MD Midi Clk [sync settings],
then triggering patterns on the MD *from* SX [e.g. SX plays C2
via ch.1 to the MD, and MD plays pattern H7 --see Global Settings
in the MD]. This works _very_ well. The timing in SX is much
improved, and the patterns play tightly.

The MD sends out clock all the time, so slaving SX to it is
transparent, as long as you have the physical connection. You
still control transport from SX.

It seems unintuitive, but it works like a charm. Try it. Trust
me.

Good luck! -E.

Hey nate!
forget the numbers. do you actually *hear* sync problems? Because I think
all MDs do that, but they keep into the beat. I use mine with midi clock
(vst 5.0) and it works just fine.
