Some distortion perhaps?

Nah, it's just not the same thing...I'm not the anal type a 909
fetischist...but I just really love those hats and cymbals the 909 can
produce. The bit reduction helped a bit.

Maybe Elektron just needs to put in a few extra samples. (hin hint)

Me too!
Anyway, I was able to create similar cymbal sounds.
Try experimenting with the ride cymbal machines (EFM and E12).
The MD lacks such good samples, but it's a synth, not a sampler!
Don't worry, the md cymbals are fine and "fresh" sounding, you just
need to work a bit on the parameters.

I totally agree!

Even better, make it possible to upload whatever _small_ samples you
want to the Machinedrum. But! Don't forget it is a drummachine, not a
sampler... :)

The Midi Sample Dump format, although painfully slow for anything over a
hand clap, would be ideal to use......

Even if it meant overwriting the current samples in memory, of course the
originals to be reloaded when the unit was reset. I don't think it would be
a good idea to give the users rom/flash ram access..

Hi,

I find that the hats need bit reduction (only a little) and a huge peak with the eq and sometimes the res filter too. seems to bring out the bite and sizzle present in the original 909 samples.

best of luck

Bitreduction sounds like a good idea since the original 909 samples for the
hats are something like 6 bit IIRC. Also, if you want to emulate a 909 fully
you should only tweak the controls available on the original machine during
playback or it won't sound genuine. That is, once you've made a 909
hat-sound don't touch anything but the decay.

I personnally think the distortion paremeter could be MUCH
MUCH better, then it would be easier to make really good trashy
hi hats that would compete with the rowdynees of the 909 hats
and rides through a PA.
