Sounds like a good idea to me, although, to be honest, at the moment I'm
still in the starting phase of working with the MD, and I cannot think of
any real "must haves".

Personally, I don't really care too much for "real 909" samples. The best
thing - for me - about the MD is that you can make it sound very different
from anything else.

What someone else proposed, though, the possibility to add some samples of
your own, might be very interesting, even if it's only a couple of 100 K.
I'm just wondering if that wouln't make things very complicated - for
Elektron *and* for us. Maybe we should just wait for an elektron "groove"
sampler...

I'm confused by how people can be into the idea of the Machinedrum, but still want 909 hihats!!! They are the drum machine equivalent of the Yamaha DX7 electric piano. Every friggin record uses them in exactly the same way. If you really want them, then just get a cheap SU200 sampler that can run in sync...

Surely, being 'forced' to create new sounds that have an equal or better listener response is a more creative approach?

I know most people relate to and like the sound of the 909 (including me), but maybe it's time to move on?

Right on. But you can't blame people trying to emulate. It can move
the crowds. I wish I had a better argument for this. I try not to
emulate however. I really don't care what other drum machines sound
like. I love my MD. It leaves the 909 in the dust.

Yah I agree, I just think people should appreciate the MD for sounding different. It's easy to say I wish it sounded like a 909, could do 303 bass sounds, had nord lead sounds etc. You can do all that with a Roland type groovebox. If the MD did everything people wanted, then it wouldn't be unique.

I guess the good thing about trying to emulate is that you discover new sounds and learn the machine in the process, even if you don't get the sound you wanted. :o)

Well, spending 3 times 32 kb on those 909 samples and ginving them a
machine of their own (one that adds an exciter, analogue-like
filter, compression, attack, decay, pitch etc.etc.) is something
neither a real 909 nor my groovebox nor my sampler can
do...allthough the sampler comes closest. It would be a better use
of memory in the MD than that silly elvis demo....wouldn't you agree
on that?

Who wouldn't mind a few extra machines in their MD? I know I
wouldn''t. (Am I sounding too greedy??)

I did get some very nice results, when trying to emulate the
909...none sounded like a 909 at all but I got some very nice hats
indeed.

Yes, that's cool - give the '909 machine' a real twist with something like a comb filter or something wacky that encourages the user to stay away from the standard 909 classic sound.

I guess my reservations are party about the MD becoming too popular - something far more likely if it's viewed as an enhanced 909 clone. Many people on this list have asked if it can do 909 kicks, 909 hihats, and 909 type pattern sequencing. These seem to be key purchasing points for many users.

I just like having a 'secret weapon' that not many others own! :o)

Hi,

Does anyone know what plans they have for future updates? Is there much more that they can fit in with the available DSP and RAM?

Hi again,

How about a Pre Fade send to the delay and the reverb? You could leave the volume of the drum turned down and just have the delayed sound. This would open up a world of subtle rhythms and effects.

Just a thought.....
