[Machinedrum] Live use.

[Machinedrum] Live use.

2003-03-17 by therealroonan

Hi,

I'm new to this group so i'll introduce myself:
I'm Ronald, a Live Techno performer called Roonan.
For 10 years i've been jamming and producing all kinds of dance music.
More info: www.roonan.nl

I bought the machinedrum a week ago to complement my Live set.
Already I use (Live) a RS7000, an ES-1 and a Kaosspad II.

I wanted to know if there are more guy's like me that use the
machinedrum Live.
I'm still looking for an easy way to work this baby along with my
other boxes.
The muting system is not as easy as the RS and i think that 32 step
patterns are not long enough for me.
So i have to select new patterns a lot to keep things interesting and
since it's easy to select the wrong pattern's when you're not
focussed on this box only, pattern mode is not the easiest way to go
Live.

So my idea was to use it in song mode and use endless loop points to
mark theme's.(read long patterns, 4 - 32 measures)
For every next theme i will skip the loop point so the next section
will start.(and loop again)
This way i can have sections as long as i want.
I haven't tried this but if the mute system can be used in this
scenario i think it will be an easy workable solution.

Does anyone has other suggestions?

GrtzZz. Roonan.

I actually played a live set like this once and I can
tell you: You're right! You can get confused and bring
in the wrong pattern, and it actually happenned to me
once during the set (lucky for me it was on a last bar
of the 16 and it sounded as if I'd crossfaded, so not
too bad). Your idea of the endless loops sounds great!
The other problem I had was volumes from one kit to
the next (since the freaking MD has no meters). So
keep it in mind if your changing from one loop to the
next with the mixer up.

Thanks for the feedback!
As for external sequencing, the RS7K is very good at this but,
then I have to reserve a track for every sound if i want to use mutes
on individual sounds.(i build a performance by a lot of manual
muting/fading, i don't (like to) use pre-arranged sequences)
It's also not possible to use parameter locks, maybe not a big
problem since you can record all the parameter changes in the
sequencer but you need 4 midi channels to adress all parameters on
all tracks.

Maybe a combination of the two?! Trigger some sounds from the RS7K
(meaning longer patterns, say track 1-8) and some sounds from the
internal (track 9-16 -> muting and parameter lock possible)....in the
song endeless loop mode....maybe use one RS7K track for pattern
selection........hmmm,
i will try this next week as i'm working hard on a Live set now for
next Saturday wich doesn't include the Machinedrum.

Grtz. Roonan.

There has been one previous owner, who had it for 3
months so it should be the newest version. It boots up
as 1.1.1. I've had it less than two weeks.

The mini I just grapped? :-/

I had knownŠ I would have let it to you (I'm spoiled these last days, I've
got a Super a few days ago)
Maybe I can ask the seller to go for you instead? What's your ebay username?

If you're in Germany it'd be simpler for him. (How kind I am :)
