I'll probably sound like a total anorak, but never mind.

The Chief Engineer on the Fizmo was the same guy who designed the SID chip used in the SIDstation! Bob Yannes. I spoke to him some years back about the SID, and he thought that Future Music gave him a terribly inaccurate review of the Fizmo - he wasn't pleased.

Machinedrum and sequencing - best workflow ?

2003-04-20 by Federico Ciapi

I'd like to know how you use the Md with software sequencers like Logic:

do you use it like a sound module?
do you sync the MD sequencer to midi clock from the computer?
do you record a pattern in audio and then arrange your songs within the
computer?

I want to find the best way to use the MD in my studio; I love creating
patterns on the MD, so I won't use it only as a sound module; I'd also
like to introduce sound variations within the song and not only within
patterns with parameter locks.
Is there a way to achieve this with Logic?

Is it better to use the song mode in the MD, or trigger patterns from
Logic?
With song mode, I can program mutes; can I do that in Logic too?

Thanks in advance to those who are going to reply!

I checked Logic and Cubase. They are both quite good because they
integrate midi and audio. My problem is that those sequencers doesn;t
speed up composing process and they are not good for experimenting..
unless you have external controls which are quite expensive. So I
started programming my own sequencer. I know it sounds crazy but I am
just not satisfied with existing tools.. I am planning to implement
Machinedrum pattern import too..

You can check it here: http://www.erekutro.com/grapefruit/

Well, they can speed up composing, because you can easily play with the
arrangement.
My problem is that I can't seamlessly integrate the MD with Logic.
The best way to achieve this has been recording patterns in logic and
then sequence the loops.

Looks nice, but I'm on a Mac.
Pattern import would be great!

Cool. I've been looking for a simple midi sequencer. I'll try it out
at home. I hope you get the midi record In soon! I have not been
satisfied with the existing tools either, but I have no idea how to
make my own.
I'll get some feedback to ya also.
