Re: [elektron] MD for non-techno, non-dance music?

Hi Ronald, Of course the MD is the greatest techno box ever, but due to it's wide range of sounds and immediate control, it is one hello of a drum box for any genre =0). the 16 LFOs (all can be assigned to a single drum if wanted) add a great deal to the equasion, allowing highly organic breaks to be made even with the straight sixteenth quantising, and if you have any interest in step sequencers, the MD is a peach =0). I don't know the 'Berlin school' genre you refer to (would like a few recommended titles if you have time), but the MD can handle just about anything. That;s the sales pitch, and now the other side of the coin...... The MD is really expensive! My god, I've said it.. let me say it again; the MD is really expensive!! If you have no use for the onboard sequencing, it's probably not worth your money - go for the Waldorf Rack Attack and a good MIDI controller for hands on control like the Doepfer Drehbank, and you can probably afford another toy too for the same money (and it really sounds excellant too - doesn't cut thru a mix as easily, but what warmth and bottom end, and you can get it to cut thru with a little effort). The Waldorf will also do synth sounds with a little coaxing (rather better than the MD IMHO). If this sounds like I'm trying to sell you a Waldorf, let me say that I didn't buy one, I bought an MD instead for the sequencing and the immediacy and the sound (I already had a Korg ER1 for the warm and fluffy sounds - the perfect combo with the MD =0)). It's really all up to you.... if Elektron still offer their money back guarantee you would be foolish not to try it out, but make sure you try the Waldorf too at your local shop. Hope this helps, thinking happy thoughts amos >From: "Ronald Pieket" <rpieket@...> >Reply-To: elektron-users@yahoogroups.com >To: elektron-users@yahoogroups.com >Subject: [elektron] MD for non-techno, non-dance music? >Date: Fri, 30 May 2003 20:16:46 -0000 > >Does anyone here use their Machinedrum for music other than the >ubiquitous four-on-the-floor dance and techno? > >I'm considering purchase of a MD for creating rhythmic sounds and >structures in my improvised Berlin-School inspired electronic music.
