SIDStation - Quest.

SIDStation - Quest.

2000-07-19 by JP

Hello:

I'm giving thought to picking up a SID Station in a couple months and have a couple general questions. I've read a good amount of stuff on it and perused the archives of this list so I have a feel for the limitations of this box/chip (noise, filters that don't shut down completely, gate/ghosting, etc.).

Any difference between the standard Station and the Ninja other than color scheme? I think the answer is no but just checking.

Any differences between older models of the Station and newer ones? I might consider buying used but I know early runs of synths often have hardware flaws that get corrected down the line so maybe new is the way to go?

Concerning tables...

Are there any PC based editing environments to make editing the Station (especially the tables) a little easier. I've seen alot of comments that the SID Station is actually really easy to get around in but the tables are a little more difficult to set up. It might be nice to have software to fall back on just in case.

Can you edit the tables "on the fly" or only in "edit mode". Alot of times when coming up w/ a X0X type sequence, I'll let the sequence play and change things like pitch, gate time, accents, etc on each succesive pass until I've got something I can use. I realize the tables aren't exactly little sequencers but this might be a cool way to develop them as well (versus making changing, saving them, listening to the results, and repeating).

Saw a couple posts somewhere that a X0X step sequencer might be worked into the OS. Any truth to that or is it just pure speculation/wishful thinking.

Thanks alot.

John

By the way, in case it matters, I've got a Virus KB and an Electribe EA1 that would be sharing duties w/ the SID.

sidstation.com on national radio P3 in Sweden!

A 30 minutes show on national radio P3 in Sweden. They played lots of
SID/NES/Amiga/Playstation-tunes. They mentioned some links after the
show, and sidstation.com was one of them! :)

The difference is basically just the appearance. There's also a new set of
patches onboard, but you can download them from the web site. Also, the
Ninja is limited to 50 copies.

There's different OS versions, but you can always download the latest
version from the web site.

This I don't know about ... I haven't started looking for such a thing yet.
(I've only had my SidStation for about a week!) Hopefully someone else on
the list can fill in the blanks for you.

I dunno about this, but there are 16 step sequencers out there. I know
there's a few for PC, and there's also hardware ones by MAM and Doepfer. I
bought the MAM SQ16 and it's really cool, except right now, it resets my
SidStation when I hook them directly together. But, the guys at MAM are
helping me out with this problem, and hopefully it'll be resolved soon.

I have an Electribe ER1 ... it kicks! Great for freaky sounds, and you
gotta love the 16 step sequencing :)
