ultra-quiet VO-6

ultra-quiet VO-6

2003-11-11 by oldmanfury

Hello,

After much much deliberation, I am now with monomachine ;)

I'm sure that somebody else has reported this bug... so I'm posting
the question here: Is VO-6 _extremely quiet on your MnM? I read the
previous posts about adjusting AMP and WOFS, Decay and release, and
it is now audible, but very, very quiet. It is almost as if they
bumped up the volume on the unit for rev. 0.92, but forgot to do so
for the VO-6 synth? I tried a warm reset. Any other ideas?

Otherwise, I have been digging this beast immensely. Thank god it
came the night before a holiday... I'll have plenty of "family time"
with it today!

Getting your head around the VO synth begins with the envelope params.
VO likes long HOLD and DECAY times, and will seem very quiet of they're
short.

Also play with consonant length, and for nice inflections on certain
syllables in longer phrases, play with the filters to get some
enunciating around the bass side of a bit of sound or around the high
end (resonance on the higher end of the spectrum with lighter tones
like vowels and S and H and so forth, heavier on the lower end with M
and N and things like this).

Hopefully this is helpful.

Yeah, it helps. I have it making all kinds of really quiet vocal
sounds now. But what I really want to know is, even when it is set
perfectly, spouting out "Mah-nooo-maaa-sheen", is it still 20 dB
quieter than the other synths? If not, maybe I should re-install OS
0.92?

Well, I haven't noticed any significant difference, but I'm not even
sure I've messed with the VO-6 since installing .92. I've been
primarily focused on the FM synths.

I'll crawl into my studio this evening and comp them. Maybe I can
email you a sysex dump of what sounds good and loud on mine (assuming
it does) and you can comp it against yours?
