[MD] Shutting down midi

[MD] Shutting down midi

2003-12-08 by M-.-n

Hi there,

Is there anyway to connect the MD to external midi gear using sync but make sure the MD does not react to midi and does not send any ? Basically, I'd like it to be completely independant (using its own sequencer) but slaved to another seq for song pos/start/stop and tempo.

If not, I think it would be a nice switch to get in following OS.

Thanks
Marc

That's basically what the mode Sync Tempo IN ON in the global edit
window will do.
Be sure Sync Crtl IN is OFF

MIDI Sync OUT switches between transmission of Start, Stop, Continue
and MIDI Timing Clocks OUT of the MD.

In case it's page 57 of the 1.12 manual ;)

Now if it is not reliable or doesn't exactly make the trick, you should
use a little MIDI trick box from MIDI Solutions or equivalent (this one
I know works) and filter everything out save pos/start/stop and tempo.
If I remember there has been such question this spring on the list…

Mmmm[-.-n] ; probably haven't been clear enough. I want tempo (sync tempo
in) *AND* start/stop (sync ctrl on). But I don't want the MD to send/recieve
note and CC messages (coz it basically takes me 4 channels and I want a very
basic setup)

As far as I know it's not prossible to disable the midi in/out of
notes and CC's, but maybe i know a workaround;
You can shift the notes wich trigger the drums and patterns to very
low or high note numbers, usually you don't use these.(c-2 to c0) If
you connect the MD as slave and use thru for other gear you don't
have to worry for sending it's CC's. It's not a nice solution but
maybe it helps a little and yes this would make a nice feature for a
new OS.
