Does anybody really work the SLIDE on their Machinedrum? I have to admit I never ever touch it, and I'm curious if anybody is into it. If anyone has a demo track where they use SLIDE it would be nice to hear. Cheers.

That's an interesting question. I was trying the Accent not too long ago and realized how useless it is. Maybe we can assign these things per track? (I know this was already answered.) Maybe we can use that accent button for something else. I'm gonna try Slide now that you mention it. --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "machinedrum99" <machinedrum99@y...> wrote: > Does anybody really work the SLIDE on their Machinedrum? Accent, useless? Do you program parameter locked volume per step/sound on all your patterns? If you do that, I can understand your view on accent, otherwise no. I've been using accent on level 15 quite a lot now, gets the kickdrum really kicking. I haven't used slide though, and I never ever go into "classic" mode. No need for that. Reassign that button to something else. It's to close to the volume pot so you might hit it by accident. /Janne

With slide you get a smooth parameter glide. For instance, if you want panning to go from left to right in a smooth fasion you simply program a lock left pan on the first note and a firm right on the last. When you select all triggers in slide the panning will go slow from left to right instead of jumping. Ronald.

Funny you should mention that "Classic/Extended" button, I totally forgot it even existed! I can't see the point in that button either. I agree with you about "Accent", which I think is a really cool function as well. I've been playing with the Slide lately and it's neat. The thing with Accent and Slide is that they give you instant pattern-wide control over things which (if you want) you can achieve on a per-track basis by using LFO's and parameter locks. However that Classic/Extended button... what's that for? --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "Janne G:son Berg" <jgb@c...> wrote: > On Tue Dec 16 2003, endlessnessisticman <endlessnessisticman@y...> wrote: > > > That's an interesting question. It is useful if you want to try a pattern with other kits. With it, you can take an otherwise langushing pattern and spice it up, flipping through different kits. Of course, once you find a kit you like, you put it back in extended mode and change the kit permanently, and add locks galore. -gerald

I do that in extended mode anyway. I just try loading different kits into the pattern. Is it quicker in classic mode or something? Anyway, I'll try that when I get home. --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "oldmanfury" <erinys@s...> wrote:

You can use classic-button in a very nice way. Load kit you think is cool. Hit the classic-button. Now start going trought you patterns. Some of them might sound usefull starting point fot building some rhythm stuff. Then you copy that pattern to new location and assign the cool kit with it in extended mode and start making pattern locks. This way you can go throught different patterns in a very fast way. I've had some excellent creative staring point with this way. Really worth of trying. (it works best, if you had made your kicks always to slot 1 and snares to slot 2 and so on...) I can't see the point in that button > either. The point was that when we were designing all this parameter lock, and kit-locked-to-pattern things, we were afraid people would find it too complex. But if parameter locks would be any useful, we needed to lock the kit, or it would just sound awful as the machine was changed. So we added the classic mode in which the kit would never change if you didn't explicitly do it yourself. Later we found that maybe it confused more people than it helped, although some people have found some interesting use for it like has been described in other posts. However, the most interesting is that someone just asked for it in the Monomachine a while ago in this list! He didn't use the term "classic" mode, but wanted the kits to stay, and not change when he changed the pattern. So it seems that some people like it after all... Daniel

Forgot to mention one interesting use of it: Switch to classic mode and then pick up pattern that would play with different kit in extended mode. Hit play and it runs with a 'wrong kit', now hit the extended mode (while it's playing) and you get wonderfull noises out of MD when it changes to right kit in the fly!! Toni.
