Monomachine case quote

Monomachine case quote

2004-01-20 by Joe

Hey everyone!
I spoke with Calzone today regarding the cases. It seems as though the
price should originally be $229 instead of $249. And if we get 5+ people
to place orders, then we can get 10% off of that. So it will end up
being $206 a case, plus shipping of course.

If this is to go through, we are to all place our orders within a set
couple of days. They're treating it as a single order so they will wait
until everyone has contacted them and made payment arrangements, etc before
they begin making any cases.

Regarding the joystick: he suggested just leaving a 2" blank space in the
top foam. That is, the top of the case will be two pieces of foam and
where the joystick is, they will be 2" apart the entire depth of the lid.
This seems like a good solution to me; better than making a tiny circular
hole for the joystick. I'm wondering, however, whether we should have a
similar "blank area" where the knobs are. I don't know if pressure will
mess them up or not (some people have reported breaking the plastic
encoders of the MD off while in cases).

Keep in mind: Calzone are in California. So anyone overseas might
have a hefty freight charge. I believe they estimated $30 for US shipping,
so it's probably quite a bit more overseas. So for those people, it might
be cheaper ordering from Elektron if they end up getting some cases (I
have emailed them the information about the Calzone cases).

So let me know what you guys think. I contacted Calzone first because
a couple months back I checked quite a few custom case manufacturers
and they seemed to be the best price vs. features and quality/reputation.
But if desired, I can make some more phone calls.

Joe.

p.s. I would prefer to discuss this topic off-list to only those that
have expressed interest. but when I emailed the above information,
several of your email providers bounced it

what about these supposed elektron cases, have you heard back from
them? I would be all the way 100% there for this idea, Id order one
of we could get it at that extra purposed 10% off for sure, if i knew
that elektron was doing nothing, but apparently this might not be
true, and the if the elektron case was more expensive. being that i
live in california, id only get charged for sales tax. but if i
ordered one from elektron id have to pay for customs fees. so im kind
of just sitting on the fence, waiting to see what happens. ALso is
elektron going to pursue only a MnM case or will there be a MD case
as well?

ABout the extra case cut out space for the encoders I say that it
would be neccessary. I do worry about breaking those encoders
everyday, as they do seem a little fragile they are already not
perfectly set up vertically on my stuff(that doesnt bother me too
much, gives the md and mnm some handmade character, as long as they
dont break), But i do think that cutout should definitely be there
for all the knob encoders including the volume and level, just in
case. (no pun intended) i wonder if their lifetime warrentee covers
case damage? ummmmm...
...probably not.
Zebra out.

I'm in, without a doubt. I can vouch on the list that Calzone does
good work... one of the studios I frequent had them build a custom case
for a hodgepodge of gear and the quality is tops.

I think a blank area where the knobs are is critical. Also, remember
to have them leave an extra 2" on one side or the other for power
cable.

Joe, thanks for this.

Count me in for a case as well. I just need to know where to
send the $$ and how soon it's needed.

I don't think I put you on the mailing list for the cases, so I forgot
to update the answer to this question. sorry about that.

I've heard from Elektron. they are hard at work on the MnM and MD
updates. they plan on setting up something with the cases, but it will
be at least a few weeks before they do so. also, their cases will not
be Calzone since they want a Swedish or European made case for simplicity.
and their cases will likely be more lightweight like aluminum; they will
also have room for the manual and the power cord. but no word on price yet
since they don't have a manufacturer of the case yet.

well, the case described above will only hold the MnM keyboard version.
but they are supposed to be making one for the MnM module as well; which
can of course be used for the MD since they're the same size.

this is in fact the way that the case will be made. we are planning on
placing orders sometime this week; so let me know if you decide that you'd
like to get in on it.

again, sorry for the late reply. I had massive email problems for awhile
(and lost several of them for a week while servers were being repaired) and
forgot what I replied to and didn't, etc. anyway, I hope I answered your
questions.

Regards,
Joe

I would suggest anyone who wants a Mono-case in the near future to go
with the Calzone order. We have jst started to _think_ about cases,
and I have no idea how long it would take us to get them done. There
is even a possibility there wouldn't be any, so better go with the
Calzone ones than wait for us.

No. Just the MnM itself; though you might be able to put the manual in
there underneath the MnM (don't know for sure, since I don't have
the physical manual yet). Of those interested in the case, not too
many thought these things were necessary, so they're currently left out.

p.s. I tried emailing you directly regarding this, but the mail bounced.

sorry about that i dont think that email address works, i dont really
know, i dont use it anymore ... maybe its me but it seems kinda
strange to have to carry around and keep track of the power cord
seperately ...but maybe thats just me...
 let me ask you this:
do i still have time to get an order in at the discounted price or is
that all over and done with? im sorry i keep on going on and on about
it. i do want a case i just dont know what i want.

can you send me your current email addy?

well, yes it is if the MnM is the only thing you're carrying around.
but most people end up taking at least a couple pieces of gear, a mixer,
audio cables, MIDI cables and power cables with them. because of this, I
usually have a case dedicated to just cables. I'm guessing most other people
on the list do something similar.

ordering hasn't been done yet. it should take place later this week, but
several people haven't replied to me in quite awhile; so as it stands
I don't even know if there's enough people interested (and ready
to buy) to get the discount.
