opting out
2004-02-07 by schmackofanz
hi, i received this mail from the owner of the spectrasonics yahoo group and thought it might be interesting for everybody at this group as well: One always needs to keep an eye on the YahooGroups "marketing" policies to avoid getting your personal information shared as marketing data with "affiliated companies" (read: other companies who would love nothing more than to send you big steaming piles of spam). Yahoo is now using something called, "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the Net and see what you're doing and where you are going. You can go here to read about the details: <http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/pixels/details.html> About half-way down the page, in the section "Outside the Yahoo! Network", you'll see a "click here" link that will let you "opt out" of this new feature. Direct link: <http://pclick.yahoo.com/p?optout> Once you have clicked that link and the next page loads, you are opted out. Note the "Success" message at the top the next page, just don't accidentally click the button canceling the opting-out you just did! Keep in mind that this opt-out applies to a specific browser rather than a specific user, so you will have to opt-out separately from each computer or browser that you use. Feel free to forward this information to other groups. In addition, you may also wish to "opt out" of a whole slew of potential spam on this page: <http://subscribe.yahoo.com/showaccount>
