Watch out for bad electrical wiring in the home!!!
I have also had many noise problems just like you.

In my old apartment the electricity was so bad that I couldn't even
touch the aluminum front panel of my MD because it was charged-up
and would shock me! I had to be careful and make sure I only
touched the plastic buttons and knobs. If I tried to use a
microphone for recording all I would hear was white noise. Even if
I just plugged my computer into the wall socket it would
automatically just switch itself on, without even having to touch
the power switch. I think there was some serious excess power
flowing through the building.

BTW - Since moving apartments all of these problems have
disappeared. So if you want a nice clean MnM sound, go buy a new
house ;-)

I've had this problem too. Often it would be because I was also
touching a certain wall of the room (it was cement). You might want
to ground your power supply or have a surge protector with a
ground. Also watch that your audio and power cables do not run
parallel to each other to ensure no noise.
