The VO machine on the MnM

The VO machine on the MnM

2004-05-09 by AUTO from AUTOMATIC PANIC

Anyone having any easy way to make vocals on this machine? Seems like
it takes forever to make it say something. I read the manual and it
still takes a long time to make it say something. I wanted to be able
to make my MnM say whole sentences in one pattern, is that possible?

only if you are willing to spend a lot of time!
i asked elektron if they have any plans to make some sort of software editor that converts
text into sysexdata for the voicemachine but their reply was no.
i use it as a cool solosound by sweeping the vowels and consonants with a slow lfo.
sounds like a crossover between joe zawinul and a marsian folksinger.

if you are looking for a cool way to generate robotic singing check out the new cantor
software from virsyn. its really inexpensive and very powerful.
i saw their demo at this years frankfurt messe and i was blown away.

Hello. I'm a new user to Elektron gear starting with the MnM and
absolutely love it! Definitely a box to make one inspired to do something
different.

As for the VO machine, I found it very easy to use. I may be simplifying
it a bit, but I simply assigned a vocal sound formant at each step of the
sequence with parameter locks locking each step to change the voice sound
and characteristics. I was able to make some spooky sounding things.
Aside from that amount of work, there wasn't anything difficult about
programming it to me.

thats how i use it too. i add some lfo modulation to make it even more spooky.
Thats very easy.
the difficult part is to make it sing some proper words.
thats what my question to Elektron regarding a text to VO converter was about.
Of course it can be done in the Mono but it takes an awful lot of tweaking to realize even
some simple words.

Programmin it is easy but it's the time to program it
is wut gets my goat. If we had some faster way to use
it, I would then be in elektro heaven.

This could take alot of study and patience. Couldn't you save the VO
patterns you come up with? Many words have the same sounds. All you
have to do is change a consonant or two. You just have to figure out
how to work with what you got. A great vocal synth that doesn't exist
anywhere except "Say It". You could sample the phonetic elements.
Keep it simple.
