WooHoo!

There's some nice new features there!

I like this one especially:

-- New machines group, CTR, with machines CTR-AL and CTR-8P:

* CTR-AL
Parameter changes are duplicated as relative changes to ALL other
tracks. Trigs have no direct effect, but can be used to hold locks.

Changes are permanent to the destination parameters. The function
of CTR-AL is the same as holding function while turning, but can
be used for adding parameter locks for all tracks.

* CTR-8P
Changes 8 Parameters from any track and page controlled from the
synthesis page and selected with the effects and routing pages. Trigs
have no direct effect, but can be used to hold locks.

Please note that changes are permanent to the destination parameters
for all CTR machines.

It's on the MD support webpage, underneath the standard OS download
link, but here's a direct link:

Insanity is the right word... I really dislike this one. When I am jamming
with the MD with the mute function, and at the same time are tweaking
sounds it is way too easy to mess up.

So, what I do is this.

1. Start an MD pattern
2. Go into the mute screen
3. Set up a couple of tracks for mute/unmute by holding the FUNCTION
button
4. While the pattern is playing and I am waiting for the right moment to
release the FUNCTION button to let my mutes be effective, I want to tweak
one of the sounds.
5. Turn the button for the parameter you would like to change

Result:
You change that parameter for all sounds in your kit. Not just the one
that you expect to change.

To get back the sounds you hade from the beginning you have to reload the
kit, hopefully you had saved it before you started with the mute/unmute
thing...

Or did I miss something in FUNCTION+parameter implementation?
Function+press parameter button to reset all values for that parameter to
what was saved in the kit?

I do the exact same thing! So it will take a bit of adjusting; but it
seems to be
well worth it!

No, but that would be nice; however I'm not gonna complain because this
feature is great!

I'm gonna load this and disappear for a while. Oh yea, should our
kits and patterns be alright? I think they will. It's been a long time.

AArghh!! I have my MD in Sweden for repair and I can't try these new
ctr-machines right away!! :(
How does they sound? Is the permanent change a problem with usage of
this thing? I'm a little worried about this permanent change thing..

Toni.

I've never updated any of my elektron gear, can anyone
tell me how to do this with the sysx file?

I'm a little worried about this permanent change thing..

One more question about this permanent change thing. Can you make for
example a change of 7 points plus to all machines at the 5th 'slot'
in pattern and then in change it back -7 points to all machines in
13th pattern, so that kit goes back to its normal position?

no need to worry about it. ;-) "permanent" may not be the best word to
describe it (though I don't know a better one). from what I can tell,
all that
they mean is that the changes you make in the CTR machines actually
change the values of parameters on the other machines. it's as if you
had
physically changed the parameters yourself within the other machines.

yes and no. you can certainly do this. but things get slightly messy if
a parameter is near the min/max values (0 and 127 or -64 and +64). for
example, if you add 7 to all DEC parameters and track one's DEC was set
to 124, then it will be set to 127 after you've added 7. BUT when you
then
try to delete 7 from it, it will be at 120 instead of 124. this happens
with
the FUNCTION+parameter tweak as well.

I hope there is away get away with this. Maybe something to recall
saved kit settings (Function+parameter push maybe?). I would love to
be able to set things very grazy in the middle of the pattern and
then go back to normal settings again with a flip of a swicth.

Can anyone upload any sound samples of tweaking the ctr-machines?
pretty please... (...with sugar on top).

I think MD now has ability to set different wing points in different
tracks, but the main swing is always same with every track (like
56%). This is the way it has been done in Monomachine and I suspect
it's same way here. Allthought I'm very excited about the individual

The new CTR machines have definitely opened up another world of control
possibilities of this machine. I am truly thankful for this. Thank you
Elektron!

I'm sure this may have come up on this list before, but the concept of
the CTR machines inspired me to think more about another type of machine
that could perhaps be implemented. Have a machine where it controls the
start and end points of the current playing pattern at the twist of a
knob. Have another set of parameters that could also shift the position
of the trigs as well. The combination of the two would allow on-the-fly
fills and variations of all sorts. You could then apply an LFO to these
parameters and of course allow for parameter locks. Perhaps call them
PAT machines. Since pattern/trig changes are permanent, there would
need to be some mechanism in place to allow you to reset the pattern
back to its original state. That could be tricky though.

I'm very pleased to see that people seem to like the new CTR-
machines. My MD is in repair and I cannot play this new feature,
which I've been dreaming of since it came up on a wishlist!

I have to say that I never believed Elektron would do control-
machines. It is so unique idea and no other piece of gear have
anything like this (as far as I know). I can already see my self at
the older days and remembering that 'damn nice drummachine from
elektron, which had these totally grazy CTR-machines'.

If MD was comparable to XoX drummachines, it is now (with parameter
locks too) going to where no drummachine or synth has ever been.

So I have to say that Elektron surely is a very different company
than others. They actually did what the users asked for and lets
remember that these new CRT-machine-ideas were pretty 'sick' already
from the start. And they did it!!!! Thank you Elektron!!

Toni

ps. now I just wait for my MD to get back home...

OMG!! This would be a very wild idea!! Would fit right in there with
the CTR-machinegroup!
