MD Help! (cntd...)

2004-08-14 by rryman23

Ok, I understand that one can only record from the Line-In. Can anyone
reccomend an audio interface so that I'd be able to do this? Do I even need
an audio interface? Would this help (http://www.themacsmith.com/
imicusb.html)?

endlessnessisticman, this one goes out to you as it seems that we have
similar equiptment.

the imic's nice kit - i use it with my laptop when i want to record my minidiscs,
because it's a hell of a lot quieter than the built-in soundcard.

answer a few questions, first:

1. how many synths do you plan to own?
2. how many do you want to listen to/record at once?
3. do you own or plan to own a mixing board?
4. how much are you willing to spend?

aleph null. a simple insinuation around silence.

I would recomend getting a mixer to run all your intruments into.
Unless you have only one instrument. For the machinedrum it's nice to
have the bass drum running on a separate output, for example. But
don't let this confuse you.

I just now remembered that Alesis just came out with USB
mixers(MultiMixUSB). This would be what I plan to get in the way of
audio interface. There are also new keyboard controllers by various
companies with audio inputs made for small laptop studios like yours,
that is if you would like a keyboard to control any software.

I suggest looking at different online music stores and looking around
for anything that has some kind of audio interface compatible with
macs. You also have to pay attention to the types of inputs. There
are soooo many different kinds for different purposes. You really
should research these things carefully.

You seem to be pointing towards a cheap solution. Look for the one
you want and find a used one.

A web site like zzounds.com is a good place to see a large list of
products and do some research. I'm not sure it's the best place to do
business. I like novamusik.com they have great service.

Get back to us on some of the products you may have a question on.
I'd like to help you more but I don't know exactly what you need or
want nor do I know how much you want to spend.
