Thanks, but I don't have a drive on my computer that will read these. Maybe that is something I should look for. Anyone here done this easily? In a message dated 2/16/2014 11:49:46 A.M. I have never used sound fount software. Are you saying that some SOFTWARE I could buy would read these discs? Or is that only if I do some other process first? Plus I do not have an old DD 3.5 drive. My goal is to avoid doing a process with each disc, as I have countless old discs. My hope is to find/buy something, where I can put any Emax 1 disc in, then choose any preset. I do not mind if the "whatever" I end up getting takes a little longer to load the disc, because I can do something else while I wait. I just do not want to have to do a process for each disc. It seems obvious that an old Emax 1 is best choice, but sounds like Emax 2 will also work easily. And I need to find a rack, due to space, which seems harder to find. If I find an old Emax 2, will it boot with Emax 1 discs? Or do I need to buy a boot disc if it comes with no disc? Blessings, Wanda In a message dated 2/16/2014 6:58:08 A.M. So if I find an emax 2 I should be able to read my old discs, then. I had seen that elsewhere, but since I also saw that emax2 was like emulator (ll?) and they were readable by the oberheim but not the emax, I wasn't sure. My goal is to find something rack mount where I can read these discs for not too much $$$. I don't have the knowledge to do the software hacks, conversions, and such I have seen referenced here. Just want simple way to play old samples. Definitely do not want to have to map samples, no worries about old sequences, etc, just sound banks. The main differences (besides possibility of larger banks in an Emax-2) are: - the Emax-1 uses compressed samples in 8 bits while the Emax-2 uses linear 16 bit samples. When loading an Emax-1 bank into the Emax-2, the Emax-2 sampler automatically converts the samples in the bank (takes a few seconds...). The difference in sample format is the main reason why most other samplers don't support Emax-1 banks. - the Emax-1 deals differently with stereo than the Emax-2. In some cases, after loading an Emax-1 bank into the Emax-2, you may have to correct the stereo voice/panning settings because the sound may only be heard on one channel (depending on the panning settings and dual voice settings on the Emax-1). In practice that's the only potential bit of work that you may have to do. FYI: as mentioned, EMXP can convert Emax-1 banks. One of the conversions supported is the same conversion to Emax-2 format as is being done by the Emax-2 sampler itself when loading Emax-1 banks. So if you convert them in this way and e.g burn the converted banks on an Emax-2 formatted cdrom, all samplers that support Emax-2 banks can read your banks... No virus found in this message.
