RE: [emax] emax2 no response to sysex.... plays midi though

2014-04-12 by Lorne Hammond

first gen midi chips need a lot of power and usb midi does not have it. One
other fix other than a harwired to bus card is changing the unit's midi IC.
New ones need to see less power . Lorne

What type of system do you have on the other end of the emax? PC/MAC/Linux
etc? Are you using a USB to Midi box? Have you tried syssex with another
piece of gear.

The only reason I'm asking is because i have some older gear that only
really likes to talk sysex using a real mpu-401/creative sound card.

any suggestions appreciated..... been trying to do sample dumps to emax2
for days. i've done this many times before so i know how to.

i just pulled the emax out of storage after 1.5-2yrs. i've tried sending sds
from soundforge7,8,10, emxpn, samplewrench all with no success. in emax midi
analyzer (master,9,5) when i send sds request or ANY sysex request there is
no data showing, the emax still says "waiting for data". i'm pissed and
frustrated.

i've set midi master (master,9,2) to channel 1. it receives and sends all
the regular midi data, notes, cc etc, etc. midi analyzer displays midi
in,out notes, channel and all that, it shows it happening, but when i try to
send sysex commands (commands that start with f0) from midi ox it doesnt
show that any data is coming through, same with all attemps at midi sds,
everytime i try...nothing. when i send note on from midi ox it displays the
data i dont understand... was using win7 at
first, decided to retrograde music computer to winxp still same symptoms
fing retarded
