emax2 no response to sysex.... plays midi though

emax2 no response to sysex.... plays midi though

2014-04-11 by madgicgadget@...

any suggestions appreciated..... been trying to do sample dumps to emax2 for days. i've done this many times before so i know how to.
i just pulled the emax out of storage after 1.5-2yrs. i've tried sending sds from soundforge7,8,10, emxpn, samplewrench all with no success. in emax midi analyzer (master,9,5) when i send sds request or ANY sysex request there is no data showing, the emax still says "waiting for data". i'm pissed and frustrated.

i've set midi master (master,9,2) to channel 1. it receives and sends all the regular midi data, notes, cc etc, etc. midi analyzer displays midi in,out notes, channel and all that, it shows it happening, but when i try to send sysex commands (commands that start with f0) from midi ox it doesnt show that any data is coming through, same with all attemps at midi sds, everytime i try...nothing. when i send note on from midi ox it displays the data i dont understand... was using win7 at first, decided to retrograde music computer to winxp still same symptoms fing retarded

What type of system do you have on the other end of the emax? PC/MAC/Linux etc? Are you using a USB to Midi box? Have you tried syssex with another piece of gear.
The only reason I'm asking is because i have some older gear that only really likes to talk sysex using a real mpu-401/creative sound card.

first gen midi chips need a lot of power and usb midi does not have it. One
other fix other than a harwired to bus card is changing the unit's midi IC.
New ones need to see less power . Lorne

thank you for replying.
I'm using a pc. core2quad, 4gigs ram. i have both windows7 and xp.
i've tried both usb-midi cable and a soundcard with mpu401. at first i assumed it was just something with the usb cable that the emax didnt like, so i installed a pci soundcard with gameport mpu401. still the emax doesnt show incoming data when i try to send/receive sample dump.
in samplewrench i selected send sample and after 30 seconds of nothing i clicked to abort, and then emax showed incoming data { controller:64 ch:16 val:0
almost same thing in soundforge when i click to send sample the emax still shows "waiting for midi data" then when i click to cancel sending the emax shows { controller:121 ch:16 val:0
emxp gives error 1048 emax response 0000 blah blah, when i try to initiate a sample dump. emax says it's waiting for midi data
i use renoise to sequence songs, and the emax receives midi and plays like it should. and the emax sends midi to renoise and will control softsynths just like it should. using both the usb-midi cable and the mpu401 port.
i don't know what else to try except maybe a different computer/motherboard. i have an old p4 i can piece together. i dont believe that has anything to do with it, but just to try EVERYTHING why not.
before i try to send sample dump i go into emax master/9/2 select midi channel 1 leave the other options off. in the pc software i select midi sds/16 bit output to midi channel 1 usbmidi or mpu401 in/out. i try to send 16bit mono 44 or 22 khz

thank you. i may need to replace ic chip. I just attemped everything on another older pc and no success with a sample dump. it wouldnt be a big deal not being able to do sds, i just don't want to fiddle around with loop points on the emax. it's so much easier and precise to set loop points with soundforge. but when a sound needs to be played on an emax, there's no substitute in my opinion.
i'm going to look around for an old soundblaster 16 and give it a try.

creat your loop points in sound forge then load the looped wave files into awave create keymap with the multisamples

then do as many multisamples as your memory can hold 1mb or 2mb or 4mb or 8mb

once done and you have several keymaps created then save as sf2 file

load the sf2 file into the emxp images folder then translate the sf2 into an emax2 bank

this is the quickest way i have found in doing it specially with the emax2 as they dont have the same rs intefacing as the emax 1

once you have your bank create save to zip or cf card and load then you can go about doing presets

this is how i do it on the emax1 also

and how i do it on the e4ultra and my eIII
