only the later versions of the emax had thud protection

this is a relay only on the stereo outs

if your only getting it on the input of the samples then it could be the 12bit dac but there is also a dbx that corp blackmere vca and an antialising filter chip before the dac

if the vca becomes faulty you can get static the chip is no longer made but the new version can be installed with a resistor change on the feedback

ill get the chips involved for the input section you can swap out the dac with one of the voice dacs as it is the same chip and see if this cures the problem being the dacs fault

if that dont work your going to need a scope and logic analyzer to see whats going on visually and cross referenced with the ic data sheet to see if its signals are with in spec

a member nick had the same problem and he could never get it quiet i had to do a cap change and replace 4 dacs but because i got a cache we just changed all of them for good measure with newer date codes

and it was quiet then but i did need the scope and logic analyzer for this to see what was happening as just changing parts is counter productive as the part might be ok and the problem is else where

Thank you very much. Do you know what chip # it is if I have to replace?
