Re: connecting zip drive to emax 2

2005-05-31 by David Mattock

I have been selling HD's on ebay for the past 5 years. It is
becoming very difficult to find the used drives now so I don't sell
many anymore so I am happy to share what I know.

The Quantum Maverick 500mb is nice and quiet and so is the Quantum
Prodrive LPS 80-700mb. The conner drives that I tried were
horrible. They spun up quickly enough but I could hear them from the
other room.

One of my Emax II's at home in my studio has two Quantum Prodive LT
730mb drives in it. They format to about 690mb. But you can hear
them. I know people are generally looking for the quietest thing out
there but with the age of these older HD's you are never going to
find anything that is silent. I have always recorded my synth tracks
direct and when it's time to use a mic I just turn everything else
off. That or get a vocal booth that you can use. For live
performace who cares about a little HD noise if you can hear that
over the sound of the crowd then you didn't sell enough tickets.

Anyway I suggest looking for the Quantum Maverick 500 or the Quantum
Prodrive LPS 500 (540S) Put a jumper on A0 this will set the drive to
SCSI ID#1 and go for it.
