It's down to the whirr and whine.
It's connected via a plate to the outside casing and after 
disconnecting the power to it
the whirr ceased, but not the whining.
I then disconnected the scsi cable and lifted it outside the case. 
The whining stopped then
as well.
It seems the whine is caused by contact of the plate to the outside 
casing.
So, some insulation tape and rubber grommets cured that.
I haven't found a way to cure the whirr but it's definetely more 
acceptable now.

As regards the filter, yes, the 2 pole sounds a lot closer than the 
defaulted 4 pole.I compared it with the original source from the Emax
as well and the Esynth translation is better than the Emax II, 
strange !
