will it fry the supply if i disconnect the hard drive and the floppy?
can i replace that with a better power supply?

Your biggest issue is going to be that an Internal Zip will toast the power supply. The
power supply in the Emax and Emax II can not handle the drain of an internal zip. Does
your Emax happen to have the external SCSI adapter?
