Hi Joe, 

Back in the late 80s the Emax OS was actually not bad compared to some of 
the competition. I believe the Emax 2 was rushed out to compete with the 
Akai S1000 when 16 bit stereo sampling was the feature they needed to match. 
But I don't think Emu put much thought into improving the user interface. 

I don't use any external sample editing with the Emax 2 but it is possible 
via MIDI or RS422 if you have the MAC and software. You can also use various 
software on the PC that supports MIDI sample dump. 

If you are wanting to do a lot of stereo sampling and editing you should 
consider picking up one of the Emu Esi series. They work much better for 
stereo sample editing and are dirt cheap these days.
