Althought I really like my emax, I would hesitate to invest much money for one. You can do a hell of a lot more feature wise with a new machine, so in my mind the only thing going for the emax is it's somewhat unique sound and simple interface. I can't imagine it's either cheap or easy to fix a 20+ year old sampler, which to me should be a huge factor with regards to price. 

For those who have to have "that" sound then there probably is no limit to the price they'll pay to get it. My cheap SE machine came with a 100+ disc library, although i didn't get it for the library, i got it for the sound and interface. Would I pay more than $100? no way. I got a Sequential prophet 2002 for $25, there's 12 bits and analog filters, not as easy to use, not as hip as the emax, but it'll get the job done when you want 12 bit & analog filters.

But hey, it's just my opinion.

Keep in mind that it was an HD that sold for that much

and it had an extensive sample library with it.

An Emax which is SE, but not SE HD is not worth much

more than a regular Emax, because the only thing that

separates them is the silk screen on the front of the

machine since anyone can upgrade an Emax to an Emax SE.
