You won't be able to boot from the ZIP unless the ID is zero, on either Plus or SE HD software versions. As far as I know, internal ZIP drives are the only ones whose ID can be set to 0. With the external ZIP, you can still boot off the floppy and then hold down the Transpose button to select the SCSI ID of the drive.
