no you cant but be wary i had a back light from the german company and the cathode and anode was backwards so it shon on the wrong side
he told me to turn it round but i now that it dont work that way and i did as he said and it did not light at all
i changed mine to a led but the problem is that its 7 mm bigger and so you dave to extend all the buttons so that they fit the panel i also had to extend the pins for the volume and data sliders

Subject: [emax] Hallo to the Emax community
Glad to have found this buzzing community after owning an emax for many years.I'm now in the process of looking into whether I can SCSI up my Emax 1 SE which is something I've thought about doing a few times but was previously thwarted due to it not having the 5380 chip.I'm hoping this can be solved now with a kit from Ted Summers.
I also need a back light and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of obtaining one, specific part number ? I saw an HD44780 20X4 Character LCD Display with LED backlight on ebay and was wondering if I could use that?
Thanks for any advice on this.
Bob K
