you have to remove the front panel pcb to access the trim pot its a shame that they never added it in software or add a trimpot nob on the front you can change it to a longer nob contol but would have to drill front panel

  is it a keyboard or rack on the rack there is a negive voltage inverter so the screen can be seen from above you can adjust the contrast by turning the trim pot on the screen pcb

  thanks for your reply jammie,i realize i should have done my research a bit better before asking that backlight question.

  acctually i remembered i had a backlight (just the plastic strip part) that i orderd some time ago from a guy in canada... and have had a similar experience to you trying to fit it. it lights up nice and blue but that's it, blank.......everything else sounds like it's working ok, disc loads up etc, just wondering how to proceed from here....???
