there is no glass on the back light the back light is a el strip it works of a 100 vac around about 400hz frequency

if you need a glass thats the lcd you have to replace the lcd circuit board as its non repairable if it cracks or smashed or scratched it needs changing

you have to be very carefull when putting in a el strip becuase it can scratch the lcd under surface

Thanks for the info,

As the backlight PCB on my emax doesn't seem to have the trimmer could anyone suggest why I'm not getting any characters on the backlight when I turn the unit on. As I wrote before-it lights up fine.

Do the specifications on these electroluminescent sheets vary and could it be I've received and fitted the wrong type ?

Thanks

Bob

Just point that not all emaxes have that trimmer for lcd contrast. I have got two Version 2 Rev C boards, one of those has the pot, and the other has just a fixed resistance.

Regarding the backlight, it is an Electroluminiscent sheet. I've bought it in an electronics dealer and did mine. I've fixed my three emaxes backlight and now they shine as new. (electronics skill required for this, there are lot of volts under the screen for the EL sheet.
