you can tell if its the switch mode psu as on the 1,s that are not have a 
set of red wire going to a switch at the back of the ,machine for  setting 
us voltage 100-110 and european and japanese voltage of 220-240

the trans formers have 2 110 volt incomming wires in the primary windings 
which are parrellel when wanting to make it 220-240 volts the red wire 
switch at the back switches a relay and changes the 2 110v lines into series 
110v +110v making 220-240 operation on the primary

thats why when setting the switch for voltage selection you need the machine 
off if not you can seriously damage the psu on the later models they use 
auto sensing voltage useing switching transisters and relays  you can use a 
emax 2 switch mode psu in a emax 1 you just dont have to connect the red 
wires going tro the selection switch
