Emax

get omniflop it will give you a system to control the onboard floppy controller

all hd drives are ds/dd compatible 

in dd disks there is no hole so when you put it into a hd drive the pin will not drop and so it will know its a dd disk and will do the magnetic writing pulse required for a dd disk

in a hd disk there is a hole which tells the floppy that when the disk is inserted the pin will fall in the hole so the disk drive will go into hd mode and produce the require magnetic pulse for that tape medium

i use hd drives in my samplers that require dd drives but have to use dd disks so that it will format to 720k or 800k depending on what system it formats at

the tape is different between disks and that is why they use different strengths of magnetic pulse

  Cool, good to know. The problem I face is formatting the required floppy disks. How are peeps using the floppy drive doing this? With an old computer? I have a dell with a floppy drive but I'm pretty sure it's only for HD disks, not DS/DD, right? Is there a trick, like covering a hole on HD disks or something? Any advice would be stellar.
