Re: Got another Emax.... working screen this time

2011-04-30 by mlivingston8

Yeah, I need to study the manual some more but between the Octatrack, DP/4 and the Emax, I've been in RTFM hell.

Anyway, I directly sampled in the saw from my Juno 106 and got some nice stuff going on the Emax. Those SSM2047 VCF/VCA are great. But THAT arppegiator!!!! Man, I didn't even expect it to be that cool. This board is going to fit great in my music once I figure everything out with it. Such a great sounding sampler/synth, I love it already!

What's the best strategy for getting floppies full of banks/sounds for my Emax? Sorry, I'm learning all this stuff new. I'm trying to read but could use a little guidance with this one.

I have a dell with a floppy drive but I'm pretty sure it's only for HD disks, not DS/DD, right? Is there a trick, like covering a hole on HD disks or something? Any advice would be stellar.

I'm giving the Emax HD to a friend in another state because he has the time and patience to fix her up. I'd love to keep it for parts but if anyone can fix it, he can. Mine is working and is in better physical shape anyway. I'll probably get another one for parts down the road. The emax seems to be the only thing with the SSM2047 so gonna need a donor unit eventually.

I assume that I just need to convert these with EMXP and then send them to the Emax with the (after building) the EMuSer. Correct? Once I send the banks with that program, can I then write them to floppy disk with the Emax? Is this thinking correct?

I know the files for that are available online, although I've never tested them myself (I have 1 SE, and one SE HD. Both racks).

The second Emax was supposed to be a SE HD with a bad power supply, purchased from ebay. It wasn't. It was only an SE, and it wasn't the power supply that was bad either. The seller was nice, though, and he refunded my money, minus shipping, and let me keep the rack. So I know how you feel, swapping parts and all.

But this time it's the SE version with revision 2b digital board (the first one was an HD with rev. 3.3 scsi installed.) It needed a floppy drive so I swapped in the one from the first Emax so that's sorted. But it seems that the HD OS disk I have will not run the SE Emax. Anyone have the SE OS available? I'd love to finally have a working Emax! This one is *MINT* with original box, packaging materials and manual. Unbelievable! Just need that SE OS disk..
