Hi Françis, You must use the modem port with Alchemy,also
you need to have the latest version of emax os, 
The one upgraded by the Emulator genius that did the EMXP software: http://www.emxp.net/
Some Macintosh computers models built after the Mac SE/30 models (basically any with better processors than 68030) may not have the same serial ports specs, thats why it might also not recognise the Emax even if the cable is perfect...
Try first with the tweaked OS, it works here for me (Emax 1 & 2, Mac SE/30, rs422 cable)
