just in case anyone is interested I purchased a WEH001602A-Y from rapidonline.com i bought a pin header off ebay and soldered it on to the display plugged it in and it worked. set me back 25 gbp in total and i didnt have to cut away at anything. it just fitted straight in as the dimensions are exactly the same. left pin 3 disconnected and desoldered the old backlight connecter and inverter. the new display has 16 pins but you just leave 15-16 disconnected. I hope this helps anyone wanting to upgrade their screen. Thanks to everyone who supplied info before hand.
