oled display

2011-12-12 by Mark

just in case anyone is interested I purchased a WEH001602A-Y from rapidonline.com
i bought a pin header off ebay and soldered it on to the display plugged it in
and it worked. set me back 25 gbp in total and i didnt have to cut away at anything.
it just fitted straight in as the dimensions are exactly the same.
left pin 3 disconnected and desoldered the old backlight connecter and inverter.
the new display has 16 pins but you just leave 15-16 disconnected.
I hope this helps anyone wanting to upgrade their screen.
Thanks to everyone who supplied info before hand.

if you left pin 3 disconected how are you getting the angle

also if you took away the backlight connectio how are you getting the 5v for the led

also led displays are much thicker than the original displays

by about 7mm to 9mm thicker

Hey there... I ordered one of these, should be with me tomorrow.

You say you "left pin 3 disconnected", then you go on to say you "just leave 15-16 disconnected". Can you confirm which pins should not be connected on the new display?

Also, I know where the inverter is, I take it I just disconnect it and that is it done? Do I have to do this before testing the new display?

I'm not sure where the backlight connector is though, and what to desolder?

Thanks!

Got mine today and fitted it...

Lovely lovely lovely.

Works really well. Black background with clear bright yellow (tending toward yellow-green IMHO) characters.

As well as the display http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/16x2-Oled-Display-Yellow-85x36x10mm-57-2298 you just need to order one of these 2.54mm pitch headers http://www.rapidonline.com/Cables-Connectors/36-Way-Single-Row-Header-22-0545

I also used a small bolt and three nuts (2 as stand off, one to secure) on the opposite end from the header (the end where the old 2 pin backlight header was). There is a hole on the display and on the Emax board that lines up perfectly for this.

The depth is slightly more than the old unit due to a small inductor on the back of the display. It is enough to stop the header fitting snug to the Emax board, but it is under 1mm of a difference, and there is certainly that much wiggle room between the display and the front of the Emax rack, so no problems there!

Re: oled display

2011-12-17 by jammie

well done nik it sounds all good

i have some on order and will be fitting some on other machines

this oled lcd is great for machines that dont cater for el backlights

like on the old dx7 and other yam synths

and as they are the same parallel connection they fit straight in

this is also the ideal replacemnt for the casio range of synths

as on theres there invertors are 150dc and the back lights will work on dc but have a much shorter life than the ac version of the el foil
