I won't go into EMXP usage with you, as I didn't write it (that's esynthesist).
The tone of your email reply (word choice / syntax) rubs me...
You asked for help and we provided you some advice.

The other person with a lot of knowledge in regards to the Emax electronics is Jammie (he is a synth tech in UK).

All I will say is this:
I recreated the SCSI upgrade kit for Emax.
I have shipped over 100 kits and fixed 4 damaged board installations (including damaged floppy drive circuits, as Jammie and I have the schematics, of course)
I determined how to successfully implement Slim floppy drives for Emax users on this group.
I have shipped 40 PCD-50b units to members on this Emax group after updating firmwares and testing in my Emax and Emax 2 testbeds....
So I would hazard to say I am fairly familiar with SCSI implementation on the Emax and also with this drive.

A standard 34 pin floppy does not have DS0 (drive select 0). So unless you know exactly how to modify the cable that drive isn't going to work.
Standard PC floppies do not adhere to the Schugart drive specification which Emax uses...

As to the endless repeating message if disk not formatted- sure it does when the floppy isn't working right.

You are making some assumptions here (which seem to have no basis in technical knowledge or experience with the equipment).
But what do I know, I have only been doing electronic repair on equipment for 20 years or so...

You can take my advice or not.

>>>indeed, going to try this next. but i still dont understand why EXMP won't format it? i thought i read elsewhere (on here?) that someone had formatted one in their emax? and somewhere else that someone had tricked it by formatting with exmp and been able to read/write more than 20mb on a single disk.

>>>good idea, but not the point. the drive(s) are fine, as i've swapped the "smoked" one--- which might not be bad at all-- with a known good one. neither worked.

>>>no floppy converter. the new floppy came with a ribbon cable to convert to the 34 pin floppy controller on the emax mobo. so im not sure that i need to modify it?

if i fried the floppy controller--- which i may well have--- is there a diagnosis for this? i would imagine it wouldnt read "disk not formatted" over and over.
