if it has an internal drive that should have the os on it and should boot from the hd
dont put a disk in the floppydrive and just have the hd load os
disk not formated means that the floppy drive is being seen and is doing a floppy read when it comes up as not formated its either a bad disk or the floppy drive is shot
do try the cleaning kit first as it can just need a good clean
which i have had todo on a number of old floppy drives
none of the buttons will be functional until the os is present

Subject: [emax] New Emax II user
Hi all,
I just got a cheap Emax II 2212 model, and am currently wondering if it wasn't such a good deal after all....
FYI - It has a 250mb Apple SCSI drive inside, and the original SCSI floppy drive.
I have the original 2.14 OS disk, and I have also created additional 2.14 OS disks using EMXP
When I power on the Emax II with the OS floppy disk in the drive I get the following messages:
Checking Floppy
Loading Software
Disk Not Formatted
and then a loop of Loading Software/Disk Not Formatted
I can hear the floppy drive clicking every 10-15 seconds. I get red lights on STOP and RECORD.
None of the buttons are functional.
I have tried disconnecting the internal Hard Drive to see if that makes a difference and nothing changes. I have also tried disconnecting the Floppy to see if it will boot from the HD, and again nothing.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what may be the problem? I have a floppy drive cleaning kit on order, just in case... and am prepared to splash out on a new floppy drive if that is definitely the problem.
Thanks
Tony
