can any tell me i thought that pci macs were os8
i always used nubus macs and when theuy went pci
i went pc and kept the nubus mac
as mac kept on changing the os and the hardware and the expensive hardware we brought became obsolete
its still the same today with the macs
thats why a 10-20000 pt system that went from pci to pcie was suddenly only worth 1 -3000
and now mac have gone the native route with there small pcie card
even the last generation of ptools kits are worthless in price
apart from my nubus macs i wont ever use macs again
they over charge for everything
its up to you what you buy and use but the midi stuff changed in os8 and hence why 2.5 and 2.8 dont have midi sampler support

Subject: [emax] Re: sdemax, sound designer for emax?
sorry for my slow response...
so... to run sound designer reliably or alchemy you need a pre-g3 mac to run system 7.6. ok i got that.
but now, it is pci or nubus?
i rather have a mac with pci bus, i think there are more and better options.
audiomedia3 card does not talk to sd2. but does it talk to sound designer for emax? i am trying to get that specific sound designer version built for emax working, because it is possible to edit and setup programs (presets in emu sampling terminology) as well as editing samples and other very convenient functions, if i recall reading it somewhere right. maybe sound designer for emax is more or less like the graphical editor for akai s5000 / s6000?
is there any reason to have a sound card in those pre-g3 macs? i found that there is a sound output port on 8600, 9600, or any other macs produced around that time, including Power Book 3400c (the last laptop mac that can run 7.5 or 7.6). isn't that good enough for monitoring when editing samples? audio quality from such output can't be great but just trimming or setting loop points of samples, it may not be necessary.
but if it is possible to process samples with effects inside of those macs, it will be nice to have decent quality audio put...
is there ways to process samples with effects in a mac running system 7.6? plugins, sample editor with effects? the era feels pretty far away...
