You can have a grounded 3 wire plug on a unit and one (or more) of the following can also be true: 1) The ground lead is disconnected in the unit. Should connect to metalwork / chassis, and also a tab on the power supply itself. This is the green wire inside the unit. 2) The ground in your wall actually isn't connected- you have to check this with a unit that plugs into your wall outlet. They usually have 3 lights to indicate any miswire / condition - typically available at hardware stores / home improvement centers. If this is the case you now have a "floating ground" - no true ground at all. Many homes may have this on a couple of outlets, and people may not even be aware of it.... 3) Ground reference issues- use a "ground loop isolator" which plugs into the line level inputs / outputs.
