EMAX powering down.

EMAX powering down.

2013-11-13 by klein_pierre@...

My EMAX is powering down by itself after about 15 minute of usage.

It won't go back on immediately after that, I usually have to wait about 10 minutes.

It seems like a PSU issue to me, it is almost like it is overheating or the fuse going off.

I'm just checking in here if it is a common issue, otherwise I'll substitute the PSU for a computer one.

Cheers.

When a fuse blows, it won't come back on. This does sound like an overheat issue.
To confirm it is the power supply, after it appears to have turned off, you could check the output voltages at the brown connectors of the power supply and see if there is output.
If there is still output, then the issue is not the PS. However, if the outputs are 0V then you would want to replace it.

Green is ground, yellow and orange should both have voltages (+ 5 and +12)

It did check and it does output when Off. (and the fuse is fine) It also works longer in a cold room. Looks like it is overheating.

What should I do to prevent it from overheating ?

Cool, I'll change them all myself.

If it still doesn't work i'll get a replacement PSU.

Thanx !!

BTW: I've been doing some research and who should I contact to get access to the Dropbox ?
I just got 10 brand new zips I need to fill up. I've been recording my own samples and sampling some of my drum machines. Maybe someone could use those.

It's on box.com now, dropbox folder has moved and is inactive.

Ok so I changed all the caps, I thought it was working but it continues to power down.

I think the main coil might be the problem, while shaking the board it seems that thing is loose inside of it.

Should I replace the coil or just get another Power supply ? I could also get some freeze spray and apply it on every board after it shuts down to track the problem..
